Today I was searching through websites looking for the perfect site to review and I found Mrs. Beer's Language Arts Classroom. I was drawn to Erin Beer's website because my area of concentration is English language arts. I thought to myself I will learn so much from her. I will find ideas to include in my future classroom. I sure did too! Erin Beer is a 6th grade language arts teacher in Cincinnati, Ohio. She is also a National Board Certified Teacher in Early Adolescent English Language Arts.
Erin is married and has three children. She wrote, "What do you love about your children". A blog on how she gets to know her students and what she loves about each one of her children. Which is one thing that drew me to her. I am a mom and future teacher-to-be. I loved reading about how she loves her children, and how she found out what her student's parents love about their children. The blog post was such a great idea. I think it is a great way to show each students parent you truly care about their children. It's so crucial to communicate with them on a regular basis. This not only helps conversation, but trust as well. Another amazing tool I took from her website is the Daily 5. It is a teaching strategy that gives student's choice and independency, while giving direction. It consist's of Independent reading, read to a partner, listen to reading, word work, and write about what you read. Erin says she is having a great experience with this strategy, and I think it could be used in my future classroom. Overall, I really enjoyed her colorful, enlightening, and rich classroom website. She is truly an amazing teacher!
