EDUTOPIA
George Lucas Educational Foundation created a site called Edutopia. Edutopia is a site used in education for many different resources. The site has categories on the right hand side listed for core strategies or other popular topics. I searched through quite a few different topics because it was very informative and interesting. This site could be used for teachers, principles, students, and families. Edutopia has so many topics but what I like best is the ways they distribute the information on the topic. Sometimes they have a blog post or a video that you can watch about the topic. I really liked those different options because its not just words on a screen. Yes we as teachers need to read all the time, but sometimes we would like a break. Watching a video on teaching development is a little more fun sometimes. I enjoyed searching through the site reading and watching all kinds of cool information they have on various topics.

"When I was in high school, I felt like I was in a vacuum, biding time. I was curious, but bored. It was not an atmosphere conducive to learning. Once I had the means to effect change in this arena, it became my passion to do so." GEORGE LUCAS |

One article I found intriguing was about using game-play for assessments, by Rebecca Rufo-Tepper. Sometimes students can get so anxious when they are being tested or graded. I thought game play would be a nice way to assess them without them quite knowing that they are being assessed. The article lists different ways you can use games for assessing. For example, they can be playing a game like, brainPOP that has tools to assess students in the game. Or you can have students make a game and present it to the class. After that they can have the other students in class play each others games. These games should be related to what they are learning. The article also had a video to go along with it. The video discusses why game playing is a great tool to assess your students. For example, I liked that students can play and not feel the pressure about being assessed, because they don’t realize they are being assessed. This strategy can be very useful for teachers because it can be fun for them too. Watching your students enjoy learning and having fun doing it can make assessing them enjoyable as well. All together, I really learned so much from Edutopia and this particular post as well.
